So i've been experimenting with my words through art...
I've continued on my sad piece by adding lots of black, red, and zebra colored tissue paper on it. I think the picture looks more deathly, than sad. I started doing some art with my sister last night and asked her "does this look sad to you?" She said "no" (btw, shes 7 years old). So I asked her "what would make it look more sad?" She said "Tear drops and a knife". So, I ripped a picture of a bear out and ripped its head off of its body and added a tear drop. Then I added a knife to the broken heart that I painted. It still didnt look as sad as I wanted it to be. While I was working on this piece, I burnet a red candle that smelled like a hibiscus. When I felt like I was finished the the piece for the night, I knew that I wanted to experiment with the melted candle wax. I poured the wax over the collage to give it a waxy/drippy look. I think it added a good touch to it...but i'm still not sure if sad is the feeling that I really get from it yet...
I continued on this sculpture that I made on my first day of Karen's class. I decided that this would be my mind-blowing piece. The scuplture came from the idea of my world opening up and digging deeper within myself. Under "my world" there is a thick spiral foundation to keep it grounded and always moving inward and outward. I decided to start painting it because the thought of me really working inward and noticing the way that i present myself out to others is pretty mind-blowing. I look at myself now, and i've really come a long way in the past few years and this is just a reminder to myself of that change, and the change in myself that i'm striving to make.
I started a canvas to work on my overwhelming piece. I used green, brown, and black acrylic paints. I painted a swirling design over the whole canvas. I have this poem called "P.O.W." by Alicia Keys that I LOVE. Im going to cut out and paste along the lines that I drew. I know that I want to take this piece further and include the audio somehow in it. She is AMAZING.
Here is the video of her on def poety jam. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAPFfIxP6VE
Thats all I have so far on my process thus far....I'll keep you guys posted with new updates. :)
